RTL has temporarily cancelled the TV show Voice of Holland due to allegations of sexually transgressive behaviour and abuse of power by personnel connected to the show. This is not the first time I have heard this kind of news, as it happens regularly; therefore, it remains crucial to keep the conversation going. So I thought I’d ask my question on this forum since it’s anonymous: has anyone ever experienced any form of transgressive behaviour or (sexual) violence at a Jewish event?

I was once at a Jewish event in Brussels where several people were drugged. Fortunately, there were reliable people around them, but it could have turned out differently… I honestly never expected this at a Jewish event.

Although I’ve never had this experience (maybe because I haven’t been to many Jewish events other than as a young child) I think it’s really important to talk about. The community should be a safe (and fun!) space for people to come together. Having said this, on my Taglit trip there was definitely a lack of awareness from the male attendees about what kind of behaviour and language was appropriate when talking to and about the girls on the trip, although this wasn’t quite so overt or damaging as sexually transgressive behaviour.
